The Inaugural

Welcome to The Preston amp tech, a blog chronicling (mostly) the activities of Valvolux Amplifiers, the part time business I have run since 2006.
I repair (mostly) valve amps (that's 'tubes' for people brought up on American DIY sites, or even, actual Americans) for guitar and bass plus I get to meet loads of great people along the way, like this guy.
I've made the odd theremin and also currently manufacture and sell these.

This blog will collect together projects, repair jobs and sometimes just general life at Valvolux, be prepared for some grouchy posts after I'm done working on Peavey or Mesa Boogie amps.

And what better way to start off than by introducing the new work experience kid, Lenny, who showed up at 9:15pm on 1st May 2010. He currently keeps some pretty odd hours and his training in basic tool use and simple electronic theory isn't quite going at the pace I had anticipated but he certainly is cute , and hopefully he will be getting the hang of things in about 15 years, 12 if I'm really blessed.

Here we are outside Valvolux

Here he is being cute, this time with his custom
Valvolux blanket (OK so it's a Tshirt)

Having just entered into a world where the choice of a particular brand of pram can now determine perceived social status and the consistency of bodily fluids becomes a legitimate and important topic of discussion, strangely enough I am noticing that I am rather time challenged when it comes to working on amp related stuff.

One thing I will be doing however is making sure that the new Valvolux website is launched in the next four weeks. It will be a huge improvement on the current site, which, while it was a good start was deemed 'too artistic' by customers who couldn't get past the text free home page. That'll learn me.
